What's New At Ornifolks

bullet

Norm Erthal is organizing a trip to Bhutan--scheduled for April 2012.  Link to his page here.

bullet

Guy Kirwan, Andy Mitchell and Arturo Kirconnell have a license to guide American birders in Cuba, at least for the short term.

bullet

Todd Mark organized a fine trip to Papua Barat in September of 2009, and we're reviewing our notes for a report to be posted here eventually.

Our 2008 Venezuela trip, visiting Junglaven, the Gran Sabana, Henri Pittier and Coro was very successful.  The itinerary enabled encounters with most of the country's endemics and near-endemics, but the highlights of the trip were seeing species which are sparingly distributed elsewhere:  Rufous-winged Ground-cuckoo, Gray-winged Trumpeter, Crested Eagle among many others.  A trip report is posted here.

Member David Russell set up a very enjoyable 12-day jaunt to Taiwan, in which we saw nearly all of the island's endemics.  A trip report can be downloaded here.

One of the best (and long neglected) sites for wintering Asian cranes and other hard-to- find goodies is the Republic of Korea.  Nial Moore's long experience birding in Korea was a key to the success we had on this short but productive visit. A trip report can be downloaded here.

Serra da Carajás continues to yield some of its hidden secrets to Ornifolks.  Read Guy Kirwan's most recent adventures in his report linked here

bullet

Chris Bradshaw has completed his second trip to Vietnam.  On the first tour, we saw five phasianidae, all five broadbills, and five garrulax, along with over three hundred other taxa.   Link to his 2007 report here.

bullet

A dozen members participated in our second trip to Northern Peru with Manu Expeditions.  In four weeks we saw roughly 672 species, including Marvelous Spatuletail, Ochre-fronted Antpitta and White-winged Guan.  Go to the download page  to download the 32-pp report. For a synopsis, click here.

Because of the amount of effort required for a trip leader to set up our trips, we're requesting that our trip deposit of $500 be paid at least six months before departure.  Our deposit policy is more generous and flexible than most professional tour companies.

Promoting Ground Agents

Over the years, we've used the services of many companies and individuals to help us deal with ground planning and logistics overseas.  We'd like to list them here as a service to them and to our members.
